An exceptionally nice standing posed CDV of Confederate Brigadier General Robert Augustus Toombs, in civilian dress, of Georgia. Backmark is of E. Anthony, New York.

A wealthy land and slave owner, politician, secessionists, and brigadier general. He was wounded badly at The Battle of Antietam and fled the country after Confederate defeat, returning in 1867 to reestablish himself as a powerful influence in Georgia politics.
