Here is a nice M1860 Ames Naval Cutlass dated 1864 with no scabbard. The blade is in good condition with some very minor pitting (smooth to touch) but does show some modeling throughout. The ricasso is marked with a faint Ames scroll mark and the opposite is marked 'USN / DR / 1864" along with a few other sub inspector's marks including an anchor. It still retains the leather washer.

The brass guard has a nice mellow tone throughout. The pommel cap has the inspector's initials DR as well. The grip still retains about 50% of the leather wrap with one side exposed more than the other. There is no wire left (see pics). These are great looking little swords and a relevant to any western theater display as the brown water Navy used these as found on the Cairo and other river cruisers.
