Here is a opportunity to obtain a very early Ames M1860 cavalry sword, pre-civil war dated 1858. The blade is smooth to the touch with some modeling to a gun metal gray tone. There are some flea bites along the edge and as you can see the tip of the sword is slightly bent. On the ricasso you can see the majority of the Ames mark and opposite you can see the "US / JT / 1858". The brass guard has mellowed to a nice attic patina and as many are, the front has been turned down by the soldier. The grip retains about 20% of the leather wrap with remnants still present underneath the wire. The wire has broken near the front of the grip, but as you can see in the pics have been twisted together. It does remain tight towards the pommel cap and displays nicely.

The sword does still retains its scabbard. It too is smooth to the touch and does have some pitting noted along the drag. As you can see, the hangers and loops are still present. There are no markings present. These early dated Ames are becoming hard to come by and this one is in fairly good condition overall, and because of the date, we can guarantee with near certainty that this saw action in the war.
